SPONSORED POST: I have been given this product as part of a product review through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company. I was curious if hemp-derived CBD lotion would help with my chronic pain, and The Fay Farm gave me an opportunity to find out with a sample of their Rejuvenating CBD Lotion (ingredients and details below).
When I was presented with the opportunity to try out The Fay Farm’s Rejuvenation CBD Lotion, I will admit that I wasn’t expecting much. I’d had my eye on some hemp-derived CBD products for a while, but didn’t want to shell out the cash to try something that I wasn’t convinced would work. In the never ending quest to manage my chronic pain, I’ve already spent so much on topical pain relievers, supplements, and medieval torture devices, most of which I have wound up barely using at all.
I was skeptical, but it was free, so I was game to try it out. I have been very pleasantly surprised with the lotion, which is a more quick-absorbing version of The Fay Farm’s Warming CBD Muscle Rub. I would have written this review earlier, but I’ve been too busy smearing it all over my body. I have happily used about 3/4 of the 8.0 ounce bottle in a couple months time. I will certainly be ordering more, and am hoping to try out some of The Fay Farm’s other CBD products.
Topical pain relievers are always a bit difficult for me. I have Chronic Migraine, accompanied by some pretty intense sensory and allergic-like issues, so fragrances are something I very often get sidelined by. The Rejuvenation Lotion has a distinctive scent, which was a little weird at first, but it is mild, and actually quite soothing once you get used to it. It has not triggered any migraines for me, and I’ve really come to like the smell of it.
The Fay Farm describes the scent as “notes of vanilla from peru balsam essential oil complimented with a delicious top note of camphor makes for a mild, almost decadent aroma.” And sure, I guess, but this is not your grandma’s camphor rub. It is has a much less potent scent than the majority of topical pain relievers I’ve used. Unlike products such as Bengay or Voltaren Gel, the scent does not overwhelm your senses and follow you everywhere you go.
The other issue I’ve had with topical pain relievers in the past is my sensitive skin. The genetic disorder I have, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), affects the skin and contributes to some pretty bizarro reactions to all sorts of things. I’ve had topical products go wrong in so many different ways from breakouts to chemical burns to weird rashes of varying color and distribution. I am happy to report I have had no negative skin reactions from the Rejuvenation Lotion, and am looking forward to trying The Fay Farm’s Healing Hemp CBD Lotion or Salve when my skin goes haywire for other reasons.
But enough of what it didn’t do, here’s what it did do: The Rejuvenation Lotion is the only product I’ve tried that actually helped the hot, tingly burning sensation I get in my feet most nights. Very often the heat and pain is enough to keep me up, and at best is just wildly uncomfortable. It has also helped the achy burning I get in my legs after spending more time on my feet than usual, which causes most of my blood to pool in my lower extremities thanks to Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and for days can leave me feeling like I ran a marathon. I’ve used it on my feet and legs in the evening and the day after being on my feet, and it has helped take edge off of the pain and discomfort I usually experience.
Thanks to EDS and some of the secondary conditions I have, I experience wide spread soft tissue pain and muscle spasms, which The Rejuvenation Lotion has also helped take the edge off of. When I woke up this morning, I was unable to turn my head or bend my neck forward due to the tight muscles in my neck and back. When light stretching didn’t make a difference, The Rejuvenation Lotion did. I have used it a lot on my neck, back, and the base of my skull, which has helped a bit with some of the constant complex headaches I get.
By no means will The Fay Farm’s Rejuvenation Lotion replace any of your medications—you should always talk to your doctor before discontinuing any medication—and it may not work or be right for you at all. Every body is different, but I am a big fan of this stuff. For me, this lotion is just one more thing I can use before I feel like I’ve exhausted all of my options. The Rejuvenation Lotion has become a welcome, helpful, added tool in my arsenal against the daily slog of everything hurting all of the time.
